PlanapaloozaTM is an intense, participatory design and visioning process where you are invited to work directly with your neighbors and a multidisciplinary consultant team to provide input on your vision for the community's future. This 5-day event occurred on September 19th -24th in Assembly Hall, located at 395 Magnolia Road. An opening presentation and hands-on workshop kicked off the event on Wednesday, September 19th from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Throughout the day on Thursday, September 20th and Friday, September 21st , seven public focus meetings were held in Assembly Hall:

Purpose: To identify the priorities and goals related to the topics listed above.

Who NEEDS to attend: Representative(s) from: NCDOT, Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Streets & Grounds Dept., Planning Dept., Parks & Recreation Dept.

Who SHOULD attend: Anyone interested in streets, trails, sidewalks, paths, driving, parking, and getting around Pinehurst.

Just Big Enough: Utilities & Supporting Infrastructure”

Topics include (but not limited to): growth and growth limitations, water, sewer, schools, police/fire, etc.

Purpose: To discuss future growth patterns and the infrastructure needed to support future growth.

Purpose: To identify what it is that makes people love Pinehurst; what is truly important to their quality of life; how future development can impact those values both positively and negatively; and what elements need to be protected in order to ensure continued quality of life for all, regardless of age, ability, or socioeconomic status.

Who NEEDS to attend: Parks & Recreation Dept., Planning Dept.; Military Families; Newcomers of Pinehurst; children/students; retirees; seniors & elderly residents

Who SHOULD attend: Any & all residents who love Pinehurst

All Things Green: Parks, Open Spaces & Natural Resources”

Topics include (but not limited to): parks and open space amenities; green infrastructure, natural resources, conservation, environmental sustainability, etc.

Purpose: To discuss preservation & conservation of natural resources and open spaces in Pinehurst; to identify desires and opportunities for additional parks and open space amenities; and to discuss strategies for ensuring environmental sustainability in the future.

Who NEEDS to attend: Representative(s) from Village Parks & Recreation, Greenway Wildlife Habitat Committee, Parks & Recreation Dept., Streets & Grounds Dept., Public Services Dept., Planning Dept.

Who SHOULD attend: Anyone interested in the topics listed above.

Village Character & Authenticity: The Built Environment”

Topics include (but not limited to): design, scale, historic districts, public spaces, architecture, streetscape, landscape, etc.

Purpose: To discuss the factors that contribute to the “character” and “authenticity” of Pinehurst, and how to protect, enhance, and/or transform those factors.

Who NEEDS to attend: Design Professionals: Architects, Engineers, Landscape Architects, etc.; Newcomers of Pinehurst; Representative(s) from the Beautification Committee and Historic Preservation Commission; Planning Dept.

Who SHOULD attend: Anyone who loves Pinehurst and would like to discuss what makes it special


The planning studio was open from Thursday morning, September 20th through Monday afternoon, September 24th and allowed residents an opportunity to provide feedback if unable to make the scheduled meetings.

The five-day PlanapaloozaTM concluded with a work-in-progress presentation on Monday, September 24th from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the Fair Barn located at 200 Beulah Hill Road. All events were open to the public and refreshments were served at the opening and closing meetings.

Residents unable to attend were able to provide their input electronically at "Tell Us What You Think" on this site.
